This album is very nostalgic for me, as it's the first album that pushed me into the overall world of Death and Black metal. I remember being dissatisfied with most mainstream metal bands, thinking that I could never be an actual metalhead, because Disturbed and bands like them sounded too soft and fragile. But Anaal Nathrakh blew my mind, introducing me to a soundscape that was raw, carnal, and heavy as hell. This album nearly dislocated my spine when I was 17. And I am very thankful for that.

La mine, c'est le lieu qui met le plus en exergue les disparités sociales : d'un côté ils sont des milliers à descendre dans les entrailles de la terre, de l'autre une poignée s'élève socialement ; d'un côté ils meurent par centaines sous l'effet des coups de grisou, de l'autre ils consolident leurs richesses. Cette dualité, elle traverse aussi Kentucky : d'un côté le black metal atmosphérique asphyxiant, de l'autre l'americana et le folklore héroïque. Panopticon est dans la lutte permanente !

Литоургиiа réussit l'impensable : faire entrer le black metal dans l'église orthodoxe. S'il y a une dimension dramaturgique (indissociable de tout office religieux), Литоургиiа reste profond, solennel et touche le sublime. Après la sortie de cet album a lieu un Grand Schisme et un larcin : Христофор se fait dépouiller de son propre groupe par Барфоломей et Мартин ; tout ce qui reste ici provient de ces deux hérétiques. Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. Not for nothing is Mgla considered as a standard for a lot of other blacker-than-black metal bands. I hope to see this band live once.....
